Its interesting how when we are broke, in debt and depressed about our life situation we often create more of the same.  We get more of being broke, we get deeper into debt and more depressed about our life situation. 

Our very feelings about where we are work as a repellent for the things we want to create, such as a flow of money and a good feeling about our lives.  Instead of attracting abundance we are unknowingly repelling it.  Until we can understand how we are doing this we can’t consciously or knowingly turn it around.

Victor Boc, in his book “How to Solve All Your Money Problems Forever” writes about the “law of attraction” and how to get it working in your favor.  He gets into the reasons we repel money when we want to attract it.  One of those reasons is our addiction to money.  Now, I had never really examined the addiction to money before. 

I studied addiction to food, addiction to drugs, alcohol and work, but never really studied addiction to money.  My vision of a money addict would have initially been someone who was perhaps greedy, maybe a bit crooked who couldn’t get enough no matter how much he had.  But as I read Victors take on money addiction, my eyes were opened to another way of looking at my own relationship with money.

Someone who is addicted to money is constantly focused on finding ways to get it.  This isn’t just about bank robbers and thieves but legitimate business people who have an obsession with the need to get money coming in right now.  It seems the stronger the need and the obsession, the stronger the repellent force is to the very substance one is trying to attract. 

Victor suggests we can turn this addiction around by writing out what we want to create and affirming it out loud every morning upon waking and every evening before going to sleep.  I am one for affirmations and especially during these power times of day.  The purpose of affirmations is to influence the messages getting to our subconscious mind.

Another way to deal with a money addiction is to give money away!  Yes, that’s right!  Give it away!  Some are familiar with the concept of tithing, which is more closely associated with the church.  People often will give 10% of their income to their church or to a place where they receive spiritual nourishment.  Victor talks about giving 1-5% of your income away but he doesn’t specify where you should give it.  Just give where it feels right to give.

Giving away your money can seem insane when you are struggling to pay your bills in the first place, but the idea behind giving is to release your grip on money.  Imagine your fists are tightly holding on to all the money you have left.  The tighter you hold on the more restricted the flow of money is in your life. 

Money cannot flow into a closed fist.  When you open your hands and give some of your abundance away you are not only affirming the cyclical nature of money, but you are opening your hands to receive greater abundance.  It is part of the law of attraction that when we give we receive ten fold.  This means for every dollar you give away ten dollars comes back to you.  If you absolutely believed this was the way abundance worked, wouldn’t you be more inclined to give generously knowing it was coming back into your life ten fold?

As you give a percentage of your income away and affirm what you are bringing into your life each morning and evening you begin to change the direction of the flow of money in your life.  Instead of it flowing out in greater amounts than it is flowing in, it will be flowing in at greater amounts then it is flowing out.   This is where we all want to be!  We want to be more relaxed about money and simply trust that it will be there when we need it. 

Being uptight, rigid, controlling, selfish, and obsessed about money simply creates a negative vacuum pulling it out of our life.  We want to switch the setting to receive and joyfully go about our life in quiet expectation of our abundance.

I pulled Victors book back out recently and started working the principals again because I had some fear coming up about succeeding at a new business venture I had faithfully thrown myself into.  I wanted my business to be about helping people not about the money, but often that little money voice gets very big.  Money is attached to our very survival and is often a measure of how successful we are in the moment. 

At first it seemed I was pushing away opportunity.  Fortunately I understood how the subconscious works and knew I had to do some serious inner work fast!  After about three weeks of faithfully committing to a program of affirmations and glad giving I started to notice the flow of energy reversing.  People started answering my ads I previously received no response to.  People started visiting my websites and referrals began calling. 

What I was doing in the physical world, such as advertising and promotion didn’t need to change.  I was what needed to change.  I shifted my own energy around the need to make money and begin already seeing myself making a great income from my business.  Of course the more successful I was feeling internally, the more success was coming into my life. 

My subconscious was getting the message that I have a thriving business helping others transform their lives and I am making $$$ per month or more.  It may seem like a lie at first but if you understand the way the laws of manifestation work you can understand that we first manifest on an imaginary level and then we bring it into the physical.  This means you need to hold a vision of what you want in your life and from that vision the reality if created. 

So if you are feeling broke, in debt and depressed about where you are financially let go of the need to take physical action right now and instead devote some time to writing out your goals and the vision of what you want to create in your life.  Start a daily program to change your mindset and try your best not to dwell on the negatives.  Get up each morning early and feed yourself your positive images.  Hold these images as often as you can throughout the day!  Reflect on them before you drift off to sleep at night and again when waking up. 

Once you get in the rhythm of doing this every day you will begin to notice some changes.  Someone may call you about a job or opportunity.  Clients may begin responding to your advertising, you may get an increase or promotion at work.  Anything is possible if you are only open to the possibilities. 

When you stop chasing money, that is when it will come your way!
